Beyond Pinotage: modern wines of South Africa
Over the past two decades, South African wines have experienced a remarkable increase in quality, establishing themselves among the best in the world while still remaining affordably priced. Chenin Blanc continues to be the key variety, but winemakers are also excelling in crafting exceptional monovarietal wines from international grapes, alongside unique and innovative blends that reflect the creativity and vision of South Africa's winemaking landscape.
Join our guest speaker Alexey Pilin for an exciting masterclass on the vibrant world of South African wines, where tradition meets innovation in the hands of highly talented and passionate winemakers.
We'll explore three key regions - Stellenbosch, Swartland and Walker Bay - and highlight their distinct styles and offerings. While we won't focus on the local variety Pinotage, we will taste some of the most exciting modern South African wines.
As a bonus, we'll discuss whether the terms "Old World" and "New World" are still relevant today, and engage in a fun blind tasting experiment.
We look forward to seeing you!
